Galle Face Black and White

Remember those old rolls of film I found in a photo shop in Colpetty? I finally had them developed (thanks Rose!), and scanned in!

I shot one roll on galle face, here's the first few.

Clearly, the quality isn't phenomenal, but I'm really happy with them. They seem like pictures from ages ago, not 2010.

Train ride

I took a train from Ragama to Pettah once and and had my camera with me. Pretty self explanatory.

For the lack of a better title

Call it random. These pictures are from the same roll, and some are from the general region of Pettah, but I like to think of them having separate themes/feeling to them.

I really like the focus in this picture, even though it's not 'correct'(the middle of the plant is not in focus, but the spiky branches closest to you are).

The state of the Millers building is a shame, but I think there are plans to refurbish it.

Galle Face

I had some time to kill while in Colombo once and I walked up to the galle face green and took a few pictures. I shot a roll of B&W film, but to get to that I had to finish off a roll of colour first. I haven't got the B&W developed yet, but I will post those when I get them.

These two shots are from these odd-looking coke vendors (ha), who deal (ha, again) out of giant coke bottle shaped stalls. Their stuff(on a roll now) is super expensive, and in the searing heat it is so tempting to splurge on some iced cream soda.

Hustler

Oh yeah, so it looks like my ME-1 has developed a consistent light leak. I am so pissed. It's left that on almost every picture.

Home

I got my film from Sri Lanka developed. Expect constant updating services to to resume starting now.

I miss you, home.

New header everything.

This blog needed a overhaul for a while now. I kinda found the old format a little tired and well, old. So I messed around for a while now (under the influence) and I feel like I'll go with this format for a bit. We'll see if this format still works after the Gin wears off.
I also figured out a a pixel width to post pictures in so they come out bigger.

Lovely Barbara is the subject of the current header, Or well her leggings(?) are anyway.

(last) Year In Review: G20

More stuff I didn't post last year. I had tons of pictures from the G20 (click the tag below) so naturally some of them didn't get posted.

The Warhol is having an exhibit of Shepard Fairey's work from the last decade or so starting tonight, October 16th. Fairey, if you didnt know, was the guy who made the iconic red, white and blue Obama poster.

This picture is from some of the 'street art' he did around Pittsburgh.

On a side note, i found this fantastic interview of the infamous (also genius) graffiti artist, Banksy, by none other than Fairey himself.
Interview

Im going to try to get to the warhol on saturday, hopefully they'll let me take pictures.

New Header

Its been a while since I've had a new header. The source picture is one of the severely light leaked pictures from Staten island.

WTF NEW YORK

Staten_islandexpired03_1

I shot these few pictures in Staten Island and then i left the camera lying around for about a month before i finally finished the reel. So im thinking a small light leak on the camera just continuously exposed the photographs giving them this really weird yellowed effect. I personally like it.

Pictures from the G20. I was only there for one day of it, I was in philly for the weekend. What I saw was benign enough, with a little teargas action and seeing the whole city in complete lock down was not TOO bad. After I left things had got a little out of hand and if you can get a pretty good idea of it on Joe's blog. What really worried me though was the police themselves. There were riot police everywhere and alot of innocent people got arrested during the mass confusion in Oakland, and I couldnt help but feel like the police got a bit out of hand and really abused their awfully absolute power.

I keep thinking back to this Zimbardo psychology experiment.

I cant help but think that with riot gear, gas masks covering their faces and batons, the police just went on a complete power trip. Exercising their control in the sickest way possible; really, shooting a kid in the face with a pellet gun doesnt make you a man. Some photographers were forced to delete some of their pictures, some were even arrested.

Probably my new favourite picture

I was only in Pittsburgh for one day of the G20. Even though i saw one of the smaller riots, I missed the big ones over the weekend. Im kinda really mad about alot of stuff that happened, and ill get to that in a future post.

For now, here are pictures from the Free Tibet demonstration.
